Capturing the 2016 Presidential Campaign Rallies in 360

Capturing the 2016 Presidential Campaign Rallies in 360°

Project Overview

A 360° Companion Piece
For The Circus

Showtime’s hit documentary series The Circus followed Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump along the 2016 Presidential Campaign Trail, giving viewers an unprecedented look at the inner workings of the dramatic election. Wanting to take the series to the next level, Showtime reached out to our team at Subvrsive to create an immersive companion piece for the show. The vision was to take viewers inside the excitement of the rallies to provide a firsthand view of what it was like to attend their campaign events. Once the rallies were scheduled and the locations and dates confirmed, we assembled our teams in under 36 hours and flew to New Hampshire and Florida to capture the action as it unfolded.

Immersing Viewers

Our teams filmed both rallies in immersive 360° and captured candid conversations with Trump and Clinton supporters, allowing viewers to experience both events as if they were there.

In order to convincingly give viewers the feeling that they were a part of the crowd, while still providing close-up views of Trump and Clinton, we relied on the creative use of graphics and video overlays to provide a “best of both worlds” experience.

Through close collaboration with the Showtime team, we were able to capture and edit both rallies under tight deadlines, allowing the network to release the content while it was still fresh. Both videos were showcased on Showtime’s social channels, garnering a combined total of 1.2M views.
