After years of teaming up with Digi-Key to create interactive experiences designed to engage their customers in a world gone digital, we kicked things up a notch with a one-of-a-kind immersive web experience that shines a light on Digi-Key’s offerings in a brand new way.
The Digi-Key Innovation Hub flips the script on a standard website and lets visitors virtually explore a modern engineer’s workshop—packed with Digi-Key products and resources—in 360 degrees.

Idea
Dreaming Up Digi-Key’s Metaverse Debut
As a leader in the electronics manufacturing space, Digi-Key is a company that truly embraces innovation. So when we sat down with the Digi-Key team to brainstorm their next move, the vision was clear: dip into the metaverse in a way that strengthens relationships with existing customers and attracts a new, young, and curious clientele.
The challenge? Unearth the most useful content buried throughout Digi-Key’s website, highlight featured products, provide fun-to-use hands-on tools, and disperse it all meaningfully in an awesome interactive encounter.
Our collective vision and strategy led us to the Digi-Key Innovation Hub.
Work
Not Your Grandpa's Workshop
On launching the Innovation Hub, users are dropped into the heart of a gorgeous, open-concept 3D workshop packed wall-to-wall with compelling resources, useful guides, and enticing product interactions.
The choose-your-own-adventure experience lets users roam freely and peruse five zones within the space, each featuring a unique interactive encounter. Strategically-placed glowing hotspots and immersive sound design encourage visitors to move through the entire workshop and explore all of the features along the way.

A Closer Look
The Boards Explorer
One of the coolest experiential zones in the Digi-Key Innovation Hub is the Boards Explorer. Held together by compelling animation, this interactive element enables users curious about Digi-Key’s circuit boards to choose up to four boards, press a red button, and watch as the products are delivered through old-school pneumatic tubes. From there, users can peruse the different boards—in all three dimensions—for better insight into which product may best suit their needs.
The Boards Explorer is just one example of how we were able to give Digi-Key's existing assets new life within this immersive experience.
Looking Ahead
An Evergreen Experience
When we built the Innovation Hub, we did so knowing that it needed to continually evolve to retain its relevance and engage Digi-Key customers in the months and years to come. So, we made it simple to swap out products for the latest and greatest models and reserved open space within the workshop that can be used to feature limited-time promotions and seasonal campaigns.
TLDR: nobody likes expiration dates. And this experience doesn't have one.
