Saying goodbye to Shameless with a virtual after party
TL;DR
Shameless Last Call
To celebrate the finale of the hit series, Shameless, Showtime® reached out to Subvrsive to help imagine one last hurrah for the Gallagher family. The result was Shameless Last Call: an immersive website packed with all the shamelessly nostalgic Gallagher content diehard fans could ask for.
Idea
Going Out Gallagher Style
Over ten years ago, Shameless introduced the world to the Gallagher family and invited fans into their South Side Chicago home. It was there that viewers came to loathe and love the spirited brood and followed along as they navigated life’s ups and downs. And hangovers.
To celebrate the series and go out with a bang, Showtime teamed up with Subvrsive to give fans a meaningful way to say goodbye to the Gallaghers and their iconic home.
Work
An Immersive Experience
The two-part experience, which launched the night of the finale, began with a virtual panel featuring the Shameless cast and executive producer, John Wells. After tuning in for the discussion, visitors were invited to tour the rest of the website, which included an immersive 360 tour of the Gallagher home, photo ops, music, and more.
Feature
One Last Chat with the Shameless Cast
After the finale aired, fans were invited to watch an exclusive panel discussion in which the entire Shameless cast reflected on the finale and talked about their experiences on the show.
With cast members spanning multiple cities and time zones, recording the discussion remotely required thoughtful coordination and an extreme attention to detail. We shipped out conference kits to each participant that included a tablet, tripod, lighting kit, and headphones, to ensure the best possible HD capture quality so everyone could look and sound their best.
Feature
Open House
To give Shameless fans a truly immersive experience, we digitally replicated three rooms in the Gallagher home so fans could explore them in 360 degrees. Working closely with the Shameless Set Designer and Decorator, we built the Gallagher kitchen, bathroom, and living room digitally, from the ground up.
The open house was packed with details true fans would appreciate – from objects like the family’s communal rooster mug and Fiona’s sleep mask to more interactive additions like the phone number to the Gallagher family group chat. Interactive hotspots like these were placed throughout each scene to keep viewers engaged and searching for more.
Feature
Photo Op
No visit to the Gallagher house would be complete without a photo op. So, we created a custom Instagram filter that let users snap photos at the Gallagher home. Scan the code below to try it out for yourself.
