SHOWTIME All Access: Training Camp

After working with SHOWTIME Sports to capture the world’s first boxing match to be released in its entirety in VR, the network had us back to capture more 360° boxing excitement. This time, rather than capturing the primetime fight, we built anticipation for the Welterweight World Title Showdown by filming “Showtime” Shawn Porter and Keith “One Time” Thurman as they gave it their all at training camp. We captured the blood, sweat, and tears of both fighters as they pushed their bodies to the limits in preparation for the big night.

SHOWTIME All Access: Capturing the action

To capture the intensity of the training, we sent two production teams out – one to Porter’s facility in Las Vegas and the other to Thurman’s gym in Clearwater, FL. Capturing fully immersive, up-close-and-personal footage of their workouts without disturbing their time in the gym required our teams to work quickly and efficiently. As the fighters transitioned from sparring in the ring to jumping rope to training on the speedbags and back again, our teams moved audio and video equipment around the gyms to create two 360° experiences (featured above) that kept viewers in the center of the action from beginning to end.

Feeling the adrenaline

In order to give fans a taste of the intensity of both training sessions and ramp up excitement for the championship fight, we accompanied the visual footage with voiceovers from Porter and Thurman. The combination of in-your-face visuals, powerful music, and no-holds-barred commentary from the fighters created an adrenaline-packed prelude to the primetime event.SHOWTIME showcased both of the 360° experiences on their YouTube channel, and the videos received a combined total of over 25K views.
